A verbatim movement piece inspired and created by young people, exploring their relationship to environment
In 2021 One Step Theatre was commissioned by Outside the Box: Open Air Performance as Pandemic Response to produce a new piece of work exploring how people experience a place, intertwining physical landscapes with imagined ones to foster a sense of place.
We worked with a group of local young people over the course of 5-days, leading them through workshops to co-create a final public performance in Belle Isle Park Exeter.
Following the success of Ears To The Ground in August 2021, we remounted the project for two South West schools with low arts engagement. We delivered workshops at Wadham School and Holyrood School, which culminated in the creation of a new piece of performance work, driven by the voices of the young people.
"‘I was really impressed, far more than I thought I would be. I wasn’t making this sort of work until I went to University - it was class!" - Audience member
"It was like someone chatting in your ear. I think they should feel very proud of their work. It was really funny at times – that surprised me, but also moving." - Audience member
I would highly recommend this workshop/performance! I hope this gets rolled out nationally. Brilliant engaging and energetic" - Teacher from Wadham School
"I'm blown away. You've enabled me to see these young people in such a unique way - I hope this gets rolled out nationally" - Teacher at Wadham School
